Queen have discussed releasing new music.
The rock legends havenât put out an album since 1995âs Made In Heaven, which was released four years after the death of iconic frontman Freddie Mercury, but drummer Roger Taylor, 75, has revealed he and guitarist Brian May, 77, âmightâ just give fans some new music.
âI think we might,â the sticksman told Uncut magazine.
âBrian and myself were talking the other day, and we both said that if we feel we have some good material, why not?
âWe can still play. We can still sing. So I donât see why not.â
The We Will Rock You hitmakers have been touring with Adam Lambert since 2012 with their tours earning rave reviews, but Brian doubts there will be a new Queen album featuring the American Idol runner-up.
Despite them laying down some potential songs in the studio, May is deterred by Queen fans who are opposed to the idea but respects their loyalty to the late flamboyant frontman.
âWe have been in the studio. We did knock a few ideas around in the middle of one of those tours. But it just never quite reached the place where we felt it was going to be right. So we havenât pursued it that far,â he said in an interview with Total Guitar magazine in 2023.
âI really donât know. But I think thereâs a bit of a barrier there. I think if people see Queen on a record label, they still want it to be Freddie singing. It could be Jesus Christ on it, but theyâd still want Freddie, and I donât blame people for that.
âThere are people on Instagram who get annoyed with me, âWhy are you still carrying on without Freddie?â And I go, âDonât tell me what I should do! I do what I feel I should be doingâ.â
May admits there are still some fans who are unhappy that Queen + Adam Lambert even touring, but he insists Mercury would be happy that the band have continued to play their music.
âThere are people who like we shouldnât even be going on stage without Freddie, he said.
âBut I think that would have been very sad, and thatâs not what Freddie would have wanted either. He would have wanted us to continue developing. And of course, because we are continuing and developing, it keeps his legacy alive.â
Despite his own astonishing vocal abilities, May thinks Mercury would have been a little bit jealous of Lambertâs incredible singing voice.
âIâve heard a billion voices in my life, and Iâve never heard a voice like Adamâs. Time an time again, I can picture Freddie saying, âYou b******!â Because Adamâs range is so ridiculous, isnât it?â
âAnd so often, Iâve found myself wishing that Freddie and Adam could have gotten together, because they would have had the greatest time. Theyâre so similar in some ways, personally and musically.â
